Customised care for well-being of patients

Today people suffering from incontinence can choose from a wide range of absorbent continence care products in different absorbency levels. The products are designed to guarantee maximum leakage protection, skin protection and wearing comfort. In addition it is possible to adapt the continence care products to the individual needs of the person affected.

To ensure that the person affected feels secure, the absorption capacity of the product has to be chosen in accordance with the degree of incontinence. It is necessary to determine how much urine is passed involuntarily over which period of time and also how the loss of urine happens – for example drop-by-drop or in gushes. The volume of urine lost can be exactly determined with the pad-weigh-test. HARTMANN has developed a system to assist in a pad-weigh project.

Furthermore the personal living conditions of the incontinent people also play a great role in product selection:
  • Is the patient still active and mobile and able to handle the product independently?
  • Are there any physical disabilities which compromise independent handling of the product so that the person affected is dependent on care?
  • Can he/she no longer understand that he/she is incontinent due to an illness such as dementia?
  • Is the person affected bedridden, have skin problems and faecal incontinence?

Both the patient and carer will benefit from finding the most suitable product: those affected by incontinence are given quality of life because they are spared embarrassing leakages, and feel confident and secure. This in turn gives carers satisfaction because an efficient solution has been found for their patient or client.
